Many erotic fantasy novels strive to titillate the reader. Not so with Seduction in Moonlight. Ms. DeRicci’s novel shows that erotica can be beautiful and tasteful while staying true to the genre.

Acclaimed for “prose so steamy that it fogs one’s reading glasses” (Booklist), Diane Whiteside’s novels and short stories have kept vampire lovers begging for more. In this sizzling collection she crosses the border into the most hot-and-humid fantasies imaginable, featuring a trio of the most seductive bloodsuckers around.Look what Diane Whiteside has in mind:

Two wanton sisters are ushered into a world of sweltering carnal delights that only two strapping nightstalkers can offer.

A female cat burglar is caught in the act-and subjected to the most sublime punishment imaginable.

A reckless party girl with an insatiable craving for midnight cocktails meets a stranger with aninsatiable thirst of his own.

A generous young wife gives her husband the perfect present-a chance to indulge in his most dangerous fantasy.

A love-starved widow finds herself drawn to the intoxicating rhythms of a strangely compelling musician.

A collection of tales following Don Rafael Perez, Ethan Templeton and Jean-Marie St. Just, three worldly, suave and debonaire vampires who seem to get an awful lot of effortless action. I guess it wouldn’t be so bad to be a vampire if you always could get sex and blood without lifting a finger.

The collection is in a chronological timeline, starting around the turn of the century through modern times. They all take place in the majority in or around Austin, Texas, which I found intriguing because I live just a few minutes south of it. All three of the characters come across well written, but by the end of the collection you don’t know anymore about them than you did at the beginning. There is a subtle character arc for Ethan, who is a newly turned vampire in the very first story. By the end, he’s as cold as Rafael. There’s no mention of if he is Ethan’s creator, but the assumption can be made as he is the one to “school” Ethan in the beginning.

I will say that through all the stories, satisfaction does seem to be the key. All the female counterparts are explicitly left in absolute satiation by their midnight caller, typically for just one night, although one was offered a deal for a month to save her skin after being caught in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Intriguing and well written, the whole is a string of sexual encounters from beginning to end, which isn’t a bad thing, but don’t expect your typical romance out of this collection.
